St. Gregory the Great school is located on the diverse Upper West Side of Manhattan. It is conveniently located within walking distance of Riverside and Central Parks. There are many cultural centers, which enhance our neighborhood. The American Museum of Natural History, the Children's Museum, the Museum of New York City, and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture are just a few cultural landmarks that are within proximity of our school. The four-story brick edifice, constructed in 1913, houses the church and parish office on the first floor. The second and third floors accommodate up to 380 students; one class per grade level in grades Pre-k through eight. The fourth floor of the building houses the parish rectory. The school has a science lab, a small auditorium, and a computer lab that contains 4 Dell computers and 21 iMac computers. In addition, there are 17 classroom-based Macintosh computers and T1 lines throughout the building that provide instant access to the Internet. The building also houses a cafeteria and parish multi-purpose room in the basement. In 1994, a playground with new equipment was constructed and opened adjacent to the school building. Also part of our aesthetics is the Westside Community Garden in which St. Gregory the Great students are responsible for the planting and maintaining of two plots. Each spring, the garden is home to over 300 varieties of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and roses.
